Many people tell you to feel your dogs paws. That just doesn't work for my dog. I have to actually cut them when he is sleeping or file them which is a slow and tedious task and also you could rub them on the concrete if you want it to go faster. You can just run with your dog to get his nails toned down and you barely have to cut themMy dog hates to get his toenails cut any suggestions?
Calm her down and sit there and show her the trimmer and let her get used to seeing it and then trim her nails after you are done reward her with a treatMy dog hates to get his toenails cut any suggestions?
you can use a regular human nail file and if your dog isn't a hyper one you can do it like that. Theres a blackish Redish like that you can see inside most dogs nails. Those are called quiks (sp?) don't go past that, its a vain that can bleed if you cut it. If you don't cut your dogs nails often then this quik just gets longer and longer so keep up with it.
All dogs are very protective of their paws, bring the dog to a recommended groomer.
For making your dog suddenly love getting his toenails cut? ... no. Hey I don't blame him, I don't like cutting my nail either. Do you? Just struggle with him a bit and give him treats after.
Find these claw covers on this website: http://www.softpaws.com/
Have the groomer do it. If it's really bad you have the vet do it,they will put him out to do it or you can just ask them to do it when he has surgery, if he ever dose.
exercise it on concrete.
My dog had the same problem. We couldn't even try to do it ourselves. Then, when we took her to the groomers, she crapped and peed everywhere and they told us to never bring her again (she is a chihuahua). So, we went to the vet and they gave us some sedatives to give her 2 hours before going to get her nails trimmed (at the vet). After a while, she didn't need the sedatives anymore, and now we can take her to the groomer to get it done.
Our dog is very wiggly when I try to clip her nails. I have my husband hold her tightly with a blanket around her and then we pull one paw out at a time and I clip her. She has black nails so I can't see her vein so I just clip a little bit and then take a file to smooth it out. I used to take her to the groomer 1 x per month, but its a lot of extra time to drive home, pick her up and then drive to the groomers and back, so we just do it ourselves now. Our neighbors have a little yorkie that is so wiggly, they do one nail per night!
have a groomer or a vet do it, they also have a thing that just shaves the nail down some, but doesnt cut it try that
Don't cut them so short, they have nerves in their nails.
almost all dogs hate to have their toenails cut. my dog cant stand having his toenails cut so it is just plain normal
kiss ur dog , ok boy or girl , i will not hurt u.
i had a dog , i know that can be hard for them, lol
wuf wuf ,
Ask the groomer or vet about filing them instead.
Try going for walks on concrete surfaces. It will keep them down a bit.
Get a pro to do it.
It only costs a few bucks and they can do it pretty quickly and painlessly
Unfortunately, there is no real solution to this. Dogs just don't like getting their their nails cut. Remember not to cut to far, though, dogs have nerves at the back half of their nails.
When you're doing it, have him stand up and pull the paw up and backwards, like you would a horse's hoof. That way, he can't really see what's going on and is less likely to get freaked out about it.
clip em anyway
