Should you trim a ferrets toenails?

Yes! =)

Like Cinnamon Sprite said, it's for your safety and the safety of your ferret. Since it is not in the wild, ferrets don't have anything (like digging or scratching at trees and such) to naturally wear down the nail. Long nails can get caught in carpet, towels, etc. and if they try to free themselves then they can rip the nail causing it to bleed profusely and hurt. A ripped nail usually means a trip to the vet because a ferret doesn't have a lot of blood to lose.

It's relatively easy to trim a ferret's nails. Ours enjoy nail clipping time because it means Ferretone. =) The best way to get your fuzzy to behave while you're clipping is to squirt some Ferretone on the belly and let them busy themselves with licking it off.

Also, it is necessary to *regularly* trim nails. The longer the nail gets, the longer the quick gets. (The quick is the visible red/pink vein in the nail.) And the longer the quick gets, the less clippable nail you will have and result in nails that are *always* long.

And I just use people nail clippers. (Make sure they're sharp though.) I have a hard time using animal nail clippers - I feel like I can't see what I'm doing.Should you trim a ferrets toenails?
YES YOU HAVE TO and if you feel unsafe cutting them any vet does and if u want to buy the special powder if you cut to low its a speed healer but. YES U HAVE TO TRIM THEIR NAILS, at least once a month maybe more it depends on the ferretShould you trim a ferrets toenails?
Yes. When you start to hear them clicking on the floor you know its time. My ferrets are fully hand trained and all I have to do is turn them on their back and cut away. Most people can't say the same. :) If you have a fidgety ferret try asking someone else to hold a bottle of ferrivite over their nose while you trim. Leave the cap on! Just the scent will keep them occupied. When the deed is done then give them a couple licks.
Ferrets do not have retractable claws like a cat nor do their nails shed as a cats do. In order to prevent injuries, to yourself as well as to the ferret (whose nails may become caught in something and be torn out) trimming on a regular basis (generally every two weeks or so) is needed. The easiest way to do this is to place the ferret in your lap, belly up, and squirt and little ferretone onto the belly. This will keep the ferret distracted while you do the trimming. A small pet nail trimmer (see link below) works best. When clipping take care not to cut above the quick (the pink area inside the nail....see second link below) as this will cause the nail to bleed. Be sure to have some styptic powder on hand for accidental overclipping.

trim them but don't cut into a nerve, you can see it,the dark spot in the middle of the nail.
You should trim the nails whenever they are long. Simply get a cat nail cutter. You need to clip just the very end, if you clip to much you will hit the quick and cause the nail to bleed. If, while cutting you do nick the quick a bit just use a bit of flour to stop the bleeding.

It is best to go to a vet or pet store and have them show you how to do it. This way you know how to cut them.
You should tirm your animal's toenails generally for your own safety. If you're uncertain how, then ask an expert such as someone at your local pet store. If you handle your ferrets personally and physical contact often, then you should consider doing so. Same with rabbits. Also, it's usually helpful to their health also.
you specifically shouldn't.....you should bring it to the groom
definitely yes! if you are afraid to, then get your vet to do it.
