I had a perfect toenail and it all of a sudden it started to hurt and then I looked at it and it was ingrown! I didn't clip it, I didn't even touch it. It hurt so bad i could barely even walk 80 feet! I currently have an ingrown toenail on each foot and on one the other side is starting to become ingrown, can someone please give me the Pros and Cons of having the toenail REMOVED?Keep getting Ingrown Toenails?
The entire toenail does not need to be removed. Only the edges need to be removed. Once it heals no one but you will know it was done, you can't tell it. The entire nail can be removed but it usually is not necessary. Ingrown toenails can cause a very painful infection if left untreated.
After the nail is removed in which ever way you choice, a chemical can be placed on the root so the nail will not return. You will be able to go on with your normal activities within a few hours.
You will need to soak in warm salt water for a few days to help prevent infection and also apply an antibiotic ointment. But other than that there is not much to the procedure.
PROS: No more ingrown toenails and no more pain. No risk of infection for an ingrown toenail
CONS: A little pain for a few days, a little work to prevent infection while you heal.
