What's the purpose of finger and toenails?

Why are they necessary? What's the purpose of finger and toenails?
They are for scratching the backs of people you like! What's the purpose of finger and toenails?
Its a defense mechanism. Although ours aren't sharp, pointy, or otherwise naturally deadly- we share a common ancestry with mammals that do have claws. Somewhere along the timeline of human evolution, around the time we started walking upright and learning how to use tools, we lose the use of our ';claws';.

An Example of this: Fish who have eyes, but can't see. One of their evolutionary ancestors used eyes

PS. To the guy who with the dead skin comment- our dead skin flakes off, rub your hands together and look at all that black almost hair looking stuff
They are for women to paint pretty colors.

Men use them to carve channels in our legs or carve the Thanksgiving turkey, If you have a brave man, he may even use them to kill and skin bears.
I don't know. lol

What are fingernails and toenails made of?

All I know is that they are fun to paint and come in handy when you need to hurt someone or pretect yourself (The fingernails).
They protect the hands and feet from injury. In the caveman days, hands and feet were tools.
So you can scratch things.... and they make it easy pick up something small.... like a needle!
To protect the delicate ends of fingers and toes. Just guessing here. ;-)
Well if you didn't have them, what would you do if you were itchy.
To scratch naughty people. xD Hahahaha.
Nail Salons
Clawing flesh
For beauty and to scratch.
to protect nerve endings
TO PAINT THEM
Where else is the dead skin going to go?
for Hand jobs and Feet Fetish
just to make it look like human
grow them out long enuf and you have a deadly weapon
to pick your nose
God made us that way ...

(reason Enough)
