Ingrown toenails from pointe?

a friend of mine has suffered many a time from multiple ingrown toenails... she's had surgeries a couple of times that claim to keep them from coming back, but they continue to. from what i've heard, this seems to be common in girls who are en pointe. is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening to me as well?Ingrown toenails from pointe?
well you need to clip you toe nail straight across like a board and then very gently in the same direction lightly round the corner or your nails but don't file them too muchIngrown toenails from pointe?
ouch it's painfull, i had this for ages during my first years or so. My teacher gave me two bits of advice...

one, make sure the skin around your toes is hard and thick. Basically NO pedacures at all, soak your feet in surgical spirit each night or every second night. Not only will it toughen the skin and make it harder for the nail to grow in but it stops you getting blisters too :)

second, cut your nails REALLY short and keep them short. By going en pointe with long nails, your essentialy pushing the nail intot the nail bed which will damage the nail growth.

I know its soudns nasty but ballerinas are really emnt to have perfectly kept feet.

good luck with your ballet :)
ouch...that happened to my friend too from pointe

i don't think there's much you can do except clip them carefully
